- 11:22 I'm glad the snow is almost gone. I am less glad that there is freezing rain. Also, wish my heat were working.
- 12:44 Oops, may have overpoured on this batch of fudge. One rather alcoholic batch, coming up! It's probably still less than a shot for 50 fudges.
- 13:39 Off to brunch/lunch with @phillygirl82. Hooray!
- 14:13 @ infusion coffee and tea. No cinnamon rolls, making do with sticky bun
- 17:31 Dear Philly weather; BLECK. Love, Mel
- 17:41 Mmmmm, just had chai and beer (not at the same time) with the lovely @phillygirl82, who I miss! Now, more beer, hulu and fudge!

I've been missing you all a great deal (see below post on finals time) - I've left London and am home for the holidays, before my last few months as a law student.
I'm hoping to write more now that I have some time again, or at least go back and finish some of the long pieces hanging out in my private wordpress posts. I'm still reviewing Dollhouse, I promise, but I'm really pining to do these episodes justice, so Left Hand will go up tomorrow and commence what I hope will be a Dollhouse-full week. Have both political and Whedony posts lined up!
- 12:33 Feeling a bit off today. Eating some of @tychoish's Graham crackers helped.

I wonder if my grandmother secretly had me baptized as a child. I went to church tonight partly to be a little closer to her (Christmas Eve is the one time I will go to church with her) even though we are half a country apart. I also went to see if I would feel at home there at all. I attended the UU church around the corner before getting too lazy, and I love it there. I go out to the Farm when I can and I love it there. When I go I find something in what's said to bring home with me for further thought. More on that later- back to baptism.
When I was a kid, I would go to church with her when we visited. I distinctly remember taking communion , which you're not supposed to do unless you're baptized. They Have Opinions about such things. Her church (Episcopalian) is relatively liberal, but I'm pretty sure it's In The Rules somewhere. Maybe they gave me a pass because I was a kid and was interested? who knows. This time, I went up for a blessing, and it was nice. I got some weird looks from people.
Why did I go to church? To be closer to my Grandma, for a few traditions I love, and to see what I would take away from it. I love the passing of the peace and I love the incense. Incense I got in abundance (it was like Grateful Dead meets Jesus in there), peace not so much. No one said welcome or asked my name or even if I was new. Not terribly friendly folk. The clergy and readers did not really seem to be engaged in what they were reading- they were very monotone and very rarely looked up from their selections. I really didn't get much from what they said at all, and that is disappointing. I think that a better speaker could really have made an impact. Still, I went and it was interesting. Two and a half hours (they have a lot of church to process around) is definitely enough for this year.
Irreverant thoughts:
The rector sounds like Jack Nicholson reading the "Just So Stories" minus the interesting bits.
I've got Tom Lehrer's "Vatican Rag" stuck in my head.
Don't beat time, don't beat time, don't beat time
What kind of a director puts their singers behind the clouds of incense? Who's running this show?
The Sacred Harp version is so much better.

- 15:48 I am going to stop tempting myself with ads on craigslist. I will deal with this in July.
- 17:04 The squirrels on the roof are having too much fun.
Now I get to make epic macaroni and cheese. The first step of the recipe is "cook 3 pounds of macaroni". Fun!

I am finally done with this semester. YAY! My finance professor emailed me to say that I got an A. This is very surprising, as I didn't do very well and didn't turn in one of the two credit assignments. I basically got by on remembering algebra and accounting. No one in the class was prepared because this school doesn't actually make you take the prereqs. In fact, they cancelled the class that I had actually registered for that was the prereq to this one. I know I'm getting an A in my management class. I organized folks and have been overall an energetic light in the class.
Things that college has taught me:
1. You don't have to be great, just less mediocre than everyone else
2. If enough people gripe that they don't understand, then the leader can decide they didn't really need to know it anyway.
I'm so glad I go to a crappy school. I just want to take a few classes I like and finish the rest to get the piece of paper, at this point.
Hey, I'll take the grades- it means I still have a 4.0! Well, this time around in college...
I'm trying to decide if I want to matriculate at DelVal or elsewhere, and also about getting some of my records corrected from older schools, etc. I wonder if my high school will correct my name and gender in records now that I have the court order to fix the birth certificate? I'm a little worried about my background check for the series 6 and 63. I care less that it will show up that I used to be someone else (no surprise there). I just really don't want people to know my old name, because I'm afraid they will start using it in their head. This has happened before and it really pisses me off. People out here are finally forgetting.

- 23:58 Whoa. I may have put a little too much peanut butter in that batch...
- 01:20 Mint fudge potted. Time to let that chill, and then I will make an amaretto batch, I think.
- 02:32 You don't realize how much garlic is in something until you follow it with chocolate and wonder what that strange aftertaste is. Also you=me
- 02:48 It's official: I've made 600 pieces of fudge in less than a week! I miss my assembly line.
- 02:54 Also, semi-sweet is far superior to milk chocolate. Just sayin'.
- 03:46 3 hours of sleep and a final presentation tomorrow. This should be fun.
- 08:13 Not so much with the three hours, apparently
- 12:56 Aaaaaaaarg, my singing is really terrible today!
- 19:25 DONE!
- 21:35 Happy birthday @vcmcguire!
So, tonight was our second read-through/meeting about A Candid World, a Revolutionary War-era play by Dawn Brodey for the Lights Up! series at the Illusion Theatre.
My character is Davy, a Scottish soldier in the British army, and I am supposed to have a “thick Scottish accent.” Now, I like to think that I’m pretty good with dialects, though I’ve discovered that (somehow) I’m better at speaking extemporaneously with a Scottish accent than I am at applying it to my actual lines in the script, but hey…I’ve got a month or so, right?
Anyway, tonight, I just so happened to find a YouTube channel of a Scottish gentleman named Mark Day, and I will make him my unwitting mentor. Here is his scathing indictment of the Snuggie, featuring his cat Mr. Saunders.

- 22:45 I am so happy right now. I have wonderful friends and sweeties and am full of joy.
- 07:22 There was a beautiful sunrise this morning, but my windows were too clouded to take a picture. Take my word for it, though.
- 21:29 Cold and hungry. I can easily fix one of these.
- 21:32 Fudge totally counts as dinner, right? Right?
- 21:56 Oh, wow. Now that I know I need to use about 1/3 of a bottle of orange oil, this batch of fudge is GOOD.
